Skill Building
Care-Based Safety built on community strengths and connections so neighbors could rely on each other instead of outside support. We offered free trainings in de-escalation, nonviolence, conflict mediation, and safety planning, and partnered with others to push for systemic changes that address structural violence.

Community Building
We strengthened community in Ypsilanti by showing up where our neighbors gather, including weekly meals, the Peace Hub, and the farmers market. Through presence, care, and connection, we provided support such as de-escalation, first aid, and resource sharing. We also created space for play, conversation, and relationship building. Our goal was to help make every corner of the community safe, welcoming, and connected.

Care-Based Response
On Monday nights, we piloted our Care-Based Response program, a community-centered alternative to 911. Once fully funded, this program would operate a public phone line for crisis and conflict support without law enforcement involvement. Community members would be able to call for help with conflicts between family, friends, or neighbors; noise and neighborhood disturbances; wellness checks; and after-violence care. Lessons from the pilot will guide a five-year plan to grow into a 24/7 community-based response system.
